Preparing for the Messiah - Day 6
His Name Shall Be Called
Isaiah 9:6 (KJV)
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Introduction
Isaiah doesn’t simply foretell the birth of Jesus —
he reveals who this Child truly is.
This is not just an announcement of a baby.
It is a declaration of the identity, power, and glory of the Messiah who would come to save the world.
Each name Isaiah lists is rich with meaning, revealing a different facet of Jesus’ heart and character. These are not poetic titles. They are realities meant to steady our souls.
When we meditate on these names, we are invited to know Him more intimately and trust Him more deeply.
Reflection
Wonderful.
Jesus is full of wonder — not just in what He does, but in who He is.
Marvelous in His mercy, breathtaking in His kindness, comforting in His presence.
A Savior who still moves with awe-inspiring grace.
Counsellor.
He is the One who guides with perfect wisdom.
He knows your heart, your questions, your fears — and He leads you gently, faithfully, and without confusion.
The Mighty God.
This tiny child is God Himself — strong, sovereign, and unmatched in power.
Every enemy bows. Every storm stills. Every burden yields to His strength.
The Everlasting Father.
Unchanging. Eternal. Steadfast.
He is the One who provides, protects, corrects, and cares for His children with a father’s heart — forever.
The Prince of Peace.
Not a giver of peace only —
the Prince of peace.
The ruler of calm in chaos,
the stillness in the storm,
the One whose presence settles every anxious place.
Which of these names meets you where you are today?
Which one speaks right into your current season?
This verse reminds us that the Child in the manger is so much more than fragile beginnings —
He is everything we could ever need.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for revealing Yourself through every one of these names.
Be my Wonderful One today.
Be my Counsellor when I feel uncertain.
Be my Mighty God when I feel weak.
Be my Everlasting Father when I need comfort.
Be my Prince of Peace when my heart feels overwhelmed.
Let Your character speak louder than my circumstances.
Amen.
