Preparing for the Messiah - Day 36
The Light of the World
John 8:12 (KJV)
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying,
I am the light of the world:
he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness,
but shall have the light of life.”
Introduction
In a world filled with confusion, pain, and spiritual darkness,
Jesus offers a stunning declaration:
“I am the light of the world.”
Not just a light.
Not just one option among many.
Not a flicker or a spark.
The light.
The only light strong enough
to expose truth,
to reveal the way forward,
to chase away fear,
to overcome darkness,
and to bring life.
Where Jesus is,
light shines.
Reflection
“He that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness…”
Darkness takes many forms:
fear, grief, sin, confusion, loneliness, hopelessness, shame, uncertainty.
Even believers encounter seasons of darkness —
moments when the way is unclear
or when shadows feel heavy.
But Jesus doesn’t say,
“You’ll never see darkness.”
He says,
“You won’t walk in it.”
You won’t live there.
You won’t be trapped there.
You won’t be abandoned there.
You won’t stay lost.
Because when you follow Him,
light becomes your path.
“But shall have the light of life.”
Jesus doesn’t just give light —
He is light.
This means:
His presence brings clarity
His word brings direction
His truth brings freedom
His love brings warmth
His Spirit brings guidance
His victory brings hope
Where Jesus goes,
life flourishes.
Where His voice is welcomed,
fear loses its grip.
Where His truth is embraced,
confusion dissolves.
He is the Light you follow
not to escape darkness
but to overcome it.
Today, ask yourself:
Where do I need Jesus’ light to shine?
What confusion needs clarity?
What fear needs His presence?
What burden needs the warmth of His life-giving light?
Jesus does not leave His followers wandering.
He leads with Light.
He guides with love.
He walks with you step by step.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You are the Light of the world
and the Light of my life.
Shine into every shadow of my heart today.
Guide my steps,
brighten my path,
and help me follow You with trust and confidence.
Let Your presence chase away all fear,
and let Your light fill me with hope.
Amen.
