Preparing for the Messiah - Day 34
A Life of Faithful Worship
Luke 2:36–38 (KJV)
“And there was one Anna, a prophetess,
the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser:
she was of a great age,
and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;
And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years,
which departed not from the temple,
but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.
And she coming in that instant
gave thanks likewise unto the Lord,
and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.”
Introduction
After Simeon, the spotlight shifts to Anna —
a woman who lived a life saturated in worship,
prayer,
and faithful devotion.
She had known deep loss,
having been widowed for decades.
Yet her grief didn’t harden her —
it deepened her dependence on God.
Anna turned her sorrow into worship,
her loneliness into prayer,
her waiting into a testimony of faithfulness.
And because her heart was fixed on God,
she recognized Jesus the moment she saw Him.
Reflection
“She departed not from the temple…”
Anna made the presence of God her dwelling place.
Not out of duty,
but devotion.
Her worship wasn’t a moment —
it was a lifestyle.
She served the Lord with fasting and prayer
night and day.
When life offered pain,
she offered praise.
When life brought silence,
she brought prayer.
When life felt empty,
she filled it with the presence of God.
Anna teaches us
that a heart trained in worship
recognizes Jesus instantly.
“And she coming in that instant…”
Not a moment too early
and not a moment too late.
Anna arrived at the exact time
Mary and Joseph brought Jesus into the temple.
God orchestrated the timing
so Anna’s faithfulness would be rewarded
with revelation.
If you have been waiting,
hoping,
praying through long seasons —
take heart.
God knows your “instant.”
“Gave thanks likewise unto the Lord…”
Her first response to Jesus was gratitude.
Thanks spilled out of her heart
because she saw in Him
the redemption she had prayed for her whole life.
“And spake of Him to all them that looked for redemption…”
Anna didn’t keep the news to herself.
Her joy became her testimony.
She spoke of Jesus to everyone
who longed for hope.
Anna reminds us:
Faithfulness positions us for encounter.
Prayer prepares us for revelation.
Gratitude fuels our testimony.
Where Simeon said,
“My eyes have seen Thy salvation,”
Anna said,
“Let me tell you about Him.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Give me a heart like Anna —
faithful in prayer,
steadfast in worship,
and sensitive to Your presence.
Teach me to recognize You when You move
and to speak of Your goodness
to those who long for redemption.
Thank You for meeting me in the waiting
and rewarding a faithful heart with Your nearness.
Amen.
