Preparing for the Messiah - Day 33
My Eyes Have Seen Thy Salvation
Luke 2:25–32 (KJV)
“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon;
and the same man was just and devout,
waiting for the consolation of Israel:
and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost,
that he should not see death,
before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
And he came by the Spirit into the temple:
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus,
to do for him after the custom of the law,
Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
A light to lighten the Gentiles,
and the glory of thy people Israel.”
Introduction
Simeon had been waiting his entire life for this moment.
Not waiting passively,
but waiting with faith,
with expectation,
with a heart fully surrendered to God’s promise.
He was a “just and devout” man,
living in the tension between hope and longing,
trusting the promise God whispered to his soul:
You will see the Messiah before you die.
And then, on an ordinary day,
led by the Spirit,
he walked into the temple
at the exact moment Mary and Joseph carried Jesus in their arms.
In that instant, Simeon knew —
God always keeps His promises.
Reflection
“Waiting for the consolation of Israel…”
Simeon represents every heart
that clings to hope through long seasons of waiting.
His waiting wasn’t empty—
it was Spirit-filled.
He waited with expectancy,
with readiness,
with a posture that said,
“Lord, I trust You.”
God sees this kind of waiting.
He honors it.
He meets it.
“And the Holy Ghost was upon him…”
Simeon didn’t find Jesus by accident.
He was guided.
Prepared.
Positioned.
The Spirit led him straight to the Savior
at the perfect time.
Sometimes the greatest moments of our lives
come not through striving,
but through being led.
“Then took he him up in his arms…”
Imagine the tenderness of this moment.
The Messiah he longed for—
the One he prayed about,
hoped for,
waited for—
was finally in his arms.
Some promises are so beautiful
they take your breath away.
“Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace…”
Peace came not because Simeon’s life was easy,
but because God had fulfilled His word.
True peace isn’t the absence of hardship—
it’s the presence of Jesus.
“For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation…”
Not an idea.
Not a prophecy.
Not a hope.
Salvation in the flesh.
Salvation he could hold.
Salvation prepared for all people.
“A light to lighten the Gentiles…
and the glory of Thy people Israel.”
Jesus is the Light for the world
and the Glory of God’s people.
Where His light shines,
darkness loses.
Where His glory rests,
hearts awaken.
Today, consider:
Where have you been waiting?
Where have you been longing for God to move?
Where might the Spirit be leading you to recognize
that salvation, comfort, and light
have already drawn near?
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for being the fulfillment of all God’s promises.
Teach me to wait with the faith and expectancy of Simeon.
Lead me by Your Spirit,
guide my steps,
and open my eyes to see Your salvation in my life.
Let Your light shine into every place of darkness,
and fill my heart with Your peace.
Amen.
