Preparing for the Messiah - Day 30
Arise and Go: Guided by God’s Warning
Matthew 2:13 (KJV)
“And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying,
Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt,
and be thou there until I bring thee word:
for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”
Introduction
The wise men had just left.
Worship had filled the home.
Gifts had been laid at the feet of Jesus.
Joy and wonder lingered in the air.
But the danger was real.
Herod, threatened by the promise of a newborn King,
was already planning violence.
In this moment of vulnerability,
God stepped in once again
with precise timing and tender protection.
Through a dream,
He guided Joseph with clear instructions:
“Arise… take the young child… flee… stay until I speak again.”
It was sudden.
Urgent.
Unexpected.
Yet it was also God’s way of keeping His Son safe
and guiding His earthly parents with perfect care.
Reflection
“An angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph…”
Joseph’s obedience shines quietly but powerfully throughout Scripture.
God spoke —
and Joseph listened.
No hesitation.
No negotiation.
No delay.
He trusted the voice of God
even when the instructions changed his plans overnight.
“Arise, and take the young child and his mother…”
God’s guidance is always purposeful.
He sees what we cannot.
He knows what lies ahead.
He leads us to move,
to stay,
to wait,
to pause,
to protect,
to surrender—
all with wisdom we could never manufacture on our own.
“Flee into Egypt…”
Egypt was far.
Foreign.
Unfamiliar.
And yet it was God’s place of provision and protection for Jesus.
Sometimes God leads us into unexpected places
not to harm us—
but to shield us,
grow us,
and prepare us.
“For Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”
God was not simply reacting to danger—
He was preventing it.
His warnings are acts of mercy.
His redirections are acts of love.
Today, consider:
Where has God been nudging you?
Where might He be warning, redirecting, or protecting?
Where do you feel Him saying, “Arise and go,”
even if the destination feels unfamiliar?
Joseph’s story reminds us:
When God speaks,
obedience is our safest place.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for guiding and protecting me,
even in ways I do not always understand.
Give me a heart like Joseph — ready to listen,
quick to obey,
and trusting in Your wisdom.
Lead me away from danger,
toward Your provision,
and into the safety of Your will.
Amen.
Journal Prompt
Where might God be redirecting or protecting you right now?
What “Egypt” (an unfamiliar but necessary step) are you hesitant to take?
How can you practice obedience like Joseph, even when the path shifts suddenly?
