Preparing for the Messiah - Day 28
Where is He That is Born King?
Matthew 2:1–2 (KJV)
“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king,
behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying,
Where is he that is born King of the Jews?
for we have seen his star in the east,
and are come to worship him.”
Introduction
While shepherds received the first announcement of Jesus’ birth,
another group was also being drawn toward the Savior—
wise men from the east, guided not by angels,
but by a star placed by God Himself.
They traveled far from home,
across unknown terrain,
driven by one simple desire:
to find the One born King.
Their journey reminds us that God knows how to draw every heart—
through light, through longing, through signs of His presence—
toward Jesus.

Reflection
“Where is He that is born King…?”
What a question.
Not “Is He real?”
Not “Does the prophecy matter?”
But “Where is He?”
Their search began with expectation.
They believed He existed.
They believed He was worthy.
They believed He could be found.
The wise men teach us something powerful:
Those who look for Jesus with sincere hearts always find Him.
“For we have seen His star…”
God speaks differently to different people.
To shepherds, He sent angels.
To wise men, He sent a star.
God meets each seeker where they are.
He uses unique means to stir each heart—
Scripture, circumstances, conversations, prayer, beauty, longing, and even disruption.
He knows how to get your attention.
He knows how to guide you toward Him.
“And are come to worship Him.”
Not to observe.
Not to analyze.
Not to question.
To worship.
These scholars, traveling great distances,
recognized what many nearby did not—
that this child was not just a king,
but the King.
Their posture challenges us:
Am I seeking Jesus out of duty…
or out of desire?
Am I coming simply to learn about Him…
or to worship Him?
Am I willing to go out of my way
to draw nearer to Him?
The wise men remind us that true faith doesn’t stay still.
It moves.
It follows.
It pursues.
It bows in worship.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Stir my heart the way You stirred the hearts of the wise men.
Give me a longing to seek You,
a desire to find You,
and a willingness to follow wherever You lead.
Let my pursuit be one of worship—
humble, joyful, and sincere.
Amen.
