Preparing for the Messiah - Day 27
Let Us Go to Bethlehem
Luke 2:15–16 (KJV)
“And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven,
the shepherds said one to another,
Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass,
which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste,
and found Mary, and Joseph,
and the babe lying in a manger.”
Introduction
The angels had returned to heaven.
The night had grown quiet again.
The field looked the same as before…
But the shepherds were no longer the same.
They had heard the message.
They had seen heaven’s glory.
And now they were faced with a choice:
Stay where they were…
or go to where Jesus was.
Their response is simple and powerful:
“Let us now go…”
Not later.
Not eventually.
Not once things slowed down or felt convenient.
Now.
Reflection
“Let us now go even unto Bethlehem…”
The shepherds teach us something essential about following Jesus:
When God reveals something,
the right response is movement.
Not rushing in our own strength,
but stepping toward the Savior with a willing heart.
“And they came with haste…”
Haste here doesn’t mean panic or fear.
It means eagerness.
A holy urgency.
A desire so deep that delay felt impossible.
This is what happens when God speaks to our hearts—
when He whispers truth,
nudges us forward,
awakens something new,
calls us to act,
or stirs us to seek Him more deeply.
The shepherds moved
because their hearts had been stirred.
“And found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.”
What they found was exactly as God had said.
Not grand.
Not royal.
Not extravagant.
But holy.
Quiet.
Humble.
Beautiful.
The shepherds remind us that when we follow God’s leading,
we discover the sweetness of His presence in places we never expected.
Today, consider this:
Where is God inviting you to “go” toward Him?
Not physically — but spiritually.
Where is He calling you to draw nearer?
To obey?
To trust?
To seek?
To look for Him with renewed eagerness?
When we take even one step toward Jesus,
He meets us with grace.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Give me the heart of the shepherds —
eager, willing, and ready to come to You without delay.
When You stir my spirit, help me respond with trust.
Lead me to the quiet places where I can see You more clearly
and know You more deeply.
Amen.
Journal Prompt
Where is God inviting you to “go” spiritually right now?
What might it look like to seek Jesus with the same eagerness as the shepherds?
How has God recently stirred your heart to move closer to Him?
