Preparing for the Messiah - Day 25
Unto You a Saviour Is Born
Luke 2:10–12 (KJV)
“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour,
which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you;
Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
Introduction
Heaven’s message to the shepherds becomes even more intimate and breathtaking in these verses.
The angels do not simply announce that a Savior has been born.
They say:
“Unto you is born…”
Not to the world in general.
Not to the worthy, the learned, or the influential.
But to you—
to the humble,
to the ordinary,
to the anxious,
to the searching,
to the weary,
to the ones awake in the night.
God’s greatest gift was not distant…
He came close.
The Savior came for you.
Reflection
“A Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”
In this single sentence, the angel reveals three life-changing truths:
1. He is the Saviour.
Not a helper,
not an assistant,
not an advisor—
but a Saviour.
The One who rescues, restores, redeems, and reconciles.
2. He is the Christ.
The promised Messiah.
The fulfillment of every prophecy.
The One Israel waited centuries to see.
3. He is the Lord.
Sovereign, holy, eternal,
worthy of all worship and authority.
This child in the manger is the Savior you need,
the Christ God promised,
and the Lord who reigns forever.
“And this shall be a sign unto you…”
Not a throne,
not a crown,
not royal robes—
but a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes,
lying in a manger.
The sign of the Messiah was wrapped in simplicity.
Why?
Because God wanted to be accessible.
Approachable.
Near.
The manger tells us that Jesus came
to meet us in low places,
in humble conditions,
in human vulnerability,
so that no one would feel unworthy to come to Him.
Where do you need a Savior today?
Where do you need His nearness?
Where do you need to remember that this gift—
this Jesus—
is unto you?
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for coming for me — personally, intentionally, lovingly.
You are my Savior, my Messiah, and my Lord.
Let the truth of Your nearness settle deep into my heart today.
Meet me in the ordinary places,
and remind me that You came so I could know Your love and Your peace.
Amen.
Journal Prompt
What does it mean to you personally that Jesus came “unto you”?
Where in your life do you feel the need for a Savior right now?
How does the humility of the manger shape your understanding of God’s love?
