Preparing for the Messiah - Day 22
Wrapped in Swaddling Clothes
Luke 2:1–7 (KJV)
“And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus,
that all the world should be taxed…
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth,
into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem;
(because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son,
and wrapped him in swaddling clothes,
and laid him in a manger;
because there was no room for them in the inn.”
Introduction
The birth of Jesus didn’t take place in a palace,
a sanctuary,
or even a comfortable home.
It unfolded in a stable—
outside the crowded places,
far from the noise of the city,
quiet, humble, and unseen by most of the world.
Luke’s account is simple and sacred:
Mary gave birth.
She wrapped her newborn in swaddling clothes.
She laid Him in a manger—
not because it was ideal,
but because it was all there was.
And yet, this moment changed the world.
Heaven touched earth
in a place where no one thought to look.
Reflection
“There was no room for them in the inn.”
Those words echo through generations.
The world was too busy,
too full,
too distracted
to make space for the Savior.
And yet, Jesus came anyway.
He came through inconvenience.
He came through limitation.
He came through less-than-ideal circumstances.
This reveals something beautiful about God:
He does not wait for perfect conditions to make Himself known.
He enters:
the crowded places,
the messy places,
the weary nights,
the unplanned seasons,
the moments where our resources feel small.
Mary placed Jesus in a manger—
not because it was holy,
but because it was available.
God still asks for the same from us:
not perfection,
not polish,
not performance—
just availability.
Jesus is born wherever He is welcomed,
even if the space is humble.
So today, ask yourself:
Where can I make room for Him?
What crowded places need clearing?
What quiet spaces can I offer?
What part of my heart feels like a “manger”—
simple, small, messy—
yet perfect for His presence?
God delights in being invited
into the places that feel least worthy.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for entering this world in humility and simplicity.
Show me where my heart has grown crowded,
and help me make room for You.
Fill even the smallest, most ordinary places of my life
with Your presence and peace.
I welcome You today—fully and freely.
Amen.
