Preparing for the Messiah - Day 21
A Child of the Holy Ghost
Matthew 1:22–23 (KJV)
“Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son,
and they shall call his name Emmanuel,
which being interpreted is, God with us.”
Introduction
The birth of Jesus was not spontaneous.
It wasn’t unexpected.
It wasn’t a divine reaction to a broken world.
It was a fulfillment —
a promise spoken centuries earlier
now unfolding with perfect precision.
Matthew reminds us that everything surrounding Jesus’ birth
was intentional, prophetic, and deeply rooted in God’s eternal plan.
And at the heart of that plan was one breathtaking truth:
God with us.
Not above us.
Not far from us.
Not watching us from a distance.
With us.
Emmanuel.

Reflection
“All this was done, that it might be fulfilled…”
Those words wrap the story of Jesus’ birth in assurance:
God keeps His promises.
Even when generations passed,
even when darkness lingered,
even when hope grew thin—
God’s word remained true.
This verse reminds us that
your life, too, is held by a God who fulfills His promises—
in His time,
in His way,
with His wisdom.
“They shall call His name Emmanuel…”
This name tells us what God’s heart has always desired:
to dwell with His people.
God with us in joy.
God with us in uncertainty.
God with us in ordinary days.
God with us in suffering.
God with us in every season.
Jesus didn’t come to improve our circumstances—
He came to be with us in them.
Emmanuel is not just a Christmas word.
It is your everyday reality.
Where do you need the presence of God today?
Where do you long to sense Him near?
Where do you need the reminder,
deep in your spirit,
that you are not alone?
The Christmas story begins not with noise,
but with presence.
God.
With us.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for coming as Emmanuel — God with us.
Be near to me today in every step, every thought, every need.
Let Your presence quiet my fears, warm my heart,
and remind me that I am never alone.
Help me to recognize Your nearness in both the simple and sacred moments.
Amen.
