Preparing for the Messiah - Day 11
Make Straight the Path
Isaiah 40:3 (KJV)
“The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
Introduction
Isaiah paints a vivid picture:
a lone voice echoing across a barren wilderness,
calling God’s people to prepare for His arrival.
This prophecy finds its fulfillment in John the Baptist, the forerunner of Jesus — the one who would stir hearts, awaken repentance, and ready the people for the Messiah.
But Isaiah’s words still speak today.
The wilderness is not only a place —
it’s a condition of the heart.
A dry season.
A weary soul.
A distracted mind.
A life waiting for renewal.
Into that wilderness, God calls:
Prepare the way. Make room. Clear the path.
Reflection
“Make straight in the desert a highway for our God…”
In ancient days, when a king traveled, the people would go ahead to clear obstacles, smooth rough ground, and straighten the road.
It was a sign of honor — and expectation.
God is asking us to do the same spiritually.
Not to earn His presence…
but to welcome it.
Because just as God sent John the Baptist to prepare Israel,
He sends moments, stirrings, and gentle nudges
to prepare us.
Preparation often looks like:
• returning to Scripture
• quieting distractions
• repentance that softens the heart
• releasing what’s been weighing you down
• choosing stillness over striving
• creating space for God’s voice again
When we clear what’s cluttered,
God moves more freely in our hearts.
Where is your wilderness right now?
What winding or cluttered place needs to be made straight before Him?
Preparing the way is not about perfection—
it’s about posture.
A humble, open, willing heart that whispers:
“Lord, You are welcome here.”
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Prepare my heart once again.
Show me what needs to be laid down,
what needs to be cleared out,
and what needs to be made straight.
Make a highway in my heart for Your presence today.
Amen.
