Preparing for the Messiah - Day 10
Preparing the Way
Malachi 3:1 (KJV)
“Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.”
Introduction
Between Malachi’s prophecy and the birth of Jesus stretched four hundred years of silence. No prophets. No new revelations. No fresh instruction from heaven.
And yet, even in the quiet, God was preparing.
Malachi 3:1 is the bridge between the Old Testament and the New — a promise that before the Messiah appeared, God would send a messenger to prepare the hearts of His people.
This messenger was John the Baptist.
But the preparation?
It was always God’s work in the waiting.
This verse reminds us that God moves even when we do not hear Him… and He fulfills His promises right on time.
Reflection
“He shall prepare the way before me…”
Preparation is an act of mercy.
God wasn’t rushing in unannounced.
He was making room for hearts to receive the One they had longed for.
This is how God works with us, too.
Before Jesus enters a new place in our lives,
before He deepens our faith,
before He shifts our direction,
before He reveals something new—
He prepares our hearts.
Sometimes through circumstances.
Sometimes through stretching.
Sometimes through longing.
Sometimes through silence.
We often interpret waiting as inactivity.
But in God’s kingdom, waiting is preparation.
Malachi’s prophecy reminds us that:
God sees the whole story.
He moves with purpose.
He prepares us before He places us.
He always keeps His promises.
Even when we feel stuck or unsettled, God may be clearing a path, softening our hearts, or aligning details we cannot yet see.
Today, ask yourself:
What might God be preparing in me?
What might He be preparing for me?
And am I willing to trust the quiet work He is doing?
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for preparing the way — not just in history, but in my heart.
Help me to trust Your timing,
lean into Your refining,
and welcome the work You are doing in me.
Make my heart ready to receive You in every area of my life.
Amen.
