Honoring the Body God Designed: A Biblical Path to Restoration
Week 1: Nourish - Feeding the Body, Mind, and Spirit With What God Provides
If there’s one thing I want you to know as we begin this month together, it’s this:
This is not a dieting journey.
This is not a restriction journey.
This is a restoration journey.
Week 1 of Restored: Honoring the Body God Designed is called Nourish, and it sets the tone for everything that follows. This first week is about nourishing the whole person—not by doing more, but by receiving what God provides: peace, wisdom, strength, and daily sustenance.
So many of us have tried to “fix” our health through pressure and willpower. But God’s way is different. Healthy living begins in the heart, and it grows through small, Spirit-led choices.
Our anchor verse for this week—and for the entire series—is:
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 KJV
This verse reframes everything.
Our bodies are not projects to control.
They are sacred spaces to steward.
What Nourish Is Teaching Us This Week
Week 1 gently invites us to move away from restriction and toward receiving.
This week helps you begin to notice:
Where you’ve been pushing instead of being replenished
How God nourishes you not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally
Why restoration doesn’t start with a checklist, but with alignment
How small, Spirit-led steps can shift the direction of your health journey
Before movement, before rest, before purpose—God begins with nourishment.
A Sample Day From the Journey (Day 1)
To give you a sense of what this devotional looks like day by day, I want to share Day 1 with you. This opening day sets the foundation for the entire journey.
Each day in the devotional also includes space to reflect on gratitude, daily prayer, and personal journaling, helping you slow down and listen as God works in both your heart and your habits.
Day 1 — Honoring God With My Body
Scripture
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.”
— 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Reflection
Today marks the beginning of a new journey—a journey not rooted in willpower alone, but in worship. When Paul reminds us that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, he is calling us to see our health through a spiritual lens.
Your body is not an afterthought or an inconvenience. It is a sacred space God lovingly designed and entrusted to you. Every act of caring for your health—resting, nourishing your body, drinking water, choosing peace, moving with purpose—is an opportunity to honor Him.
This isn’t about perfection. It’s about partnership. God walks with you, strengthens you, and invites you to treat your body as something precious, holy, and deeply loved. As you begin this 4-week journey, ask Him to shift your perspective from “I have to” to “I get to, because He dwells in me.”
Prayer
Lord, thank You for making my body a place where Your Spirit dwells. Help me to care for it with honor, gratitude, and intention. Teach me to make healthy choices not out of guilt or pressure, but out of love for You. Strengthen me today and guide my steps. Amen.
Live It Out — One Simple Step Today
Choose one small act of honoring your body today:
Drink water throughout the day
Take a peaceful 10-minute walk
Eat one nourishing meal
Stretch before bed
Protect a moment of rest
Let this be a simple beginning—done with a worshipful heart.
Carrying Nourishment Into the Week Ahead
If Day 1 teaches us anything, it’s this: nourishment begins with awareness and willingness.
This week isn’t asking you to overhaul your life. It’s inviting you to begin with one simple question:
“How can I replenish today?”
Replenish your body with what strengthens it.
Replenish your mind with what steadies it.
Replenish your spirit with what brings you back to God.
Instead of starting with pressure, we start with provision—because nourishment is where restoration begins.
