Summary: Gratitude is more than a Thanksgiving tradition. In November’s 28-day Scripture Journey, A Heart of Thanksgiving, we’ll explore what the Bible teaches about recognizing God’s goodness, giving thanks in every season, remembering His faithfulness, and living with a thankful heart. Supporting members can download the printable Scripture Journal with daily readings and reflection prompts.
As November approaches, I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to become so focused on what lies ahead that we overlook what the Lord has already done.
Over the past few months, our Scripture Journeys have encouraged us to sow in faith, trust God with the harvest, and consider how to faithfully steward what He’s entrusted to us.
This month, we’re turning our attention toward thanksgiving. Not simply being thankful when life is going well, but learning to recognize God’s goodness even when circumstances are uncertain.
Our focus Scripture reminds us:
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV)
Giving thanks in every circumstance doesn’t mean pretending that everything is good. It means remembering that God remains faithful regardless of what we’re facing.
Introducing A Heart of Thanksgiving
Through daily Bible readings and reflection questions, we’ll explore what Scripture teaches about gratitude and how thankfulness can become a regular part of our walk with the Lord.
The journey follows four weekly themes:
Week 1: Recognizing God’s Goodness
We begin by considering God’s character and recognizing His goodness in our everyday lives.
Week 2: Giving Thanks in Every Season
We’ll explore what it means to remain thankful even when life brings difficulties or uncertainty.
Week 3: Remembering God’s Faithfulness
Looking back at what God has done can strengthen our trust in Him as we move forward.
Week 4: Living with a Thankful Heart
We’ll consider how gratitude influences our worship, relationships, and willingness to serve others.

Cultivating Gratitude Beyond Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving gives us a wonderful opportunity to consider our blessings, but Scripture calls us to something that extends beyond a single holiday.
A thankful heart grows as we spend time in God’s Word, remember His faithfulness, and recognize His goodness in our daily lives. My prayer is that this month’s journey helps us become more intentional about giving thanks, even in seasons when gratitude doesn’t come easily.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Bible teach about having a thankful heart?
Scripture encourages believers to give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Biblical gratitude is rooted in recognizing God’s character and faithfulness rather than depending entirely on our circumstances.
How can I develop a habit of biblical gratitude?
Spending time in Scripture, remembering answered prayers, and intentionally thanking God can help cultivate gratitude. This 28-day journey provides daily readings and reflection questions to encourage that practice.
Do I need to complete the Scripture Journey every day?
No. The journal is designed to support your personal time with the Lord, not create another obligation. Follow the readings at your own pace and use the journaling pages in whatever way best supports your Bible study.
